FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 13 October 2009
Savour epicurean delights from 7 to 9 January 2010 as The Cliff presents acclaimed three Michelin-star Celebrity Chef Christian Bau of Victor’s Gourmet Restaurant Schloss Berg from Perl-Nennig, Germany. Cosmopolitan in approach yet with a classic French flair, he will awe guests with haute cuisine of exquisite flavours and presentation.
Christian Bau, an Offenburg native from the Baden region of southwest Germany, started off as Sous Chef under Harald Wohlfahrt, the three-star head chef of “Schwarzwaldstuben“ restaurant in Baiersbronn. In November 1996, Christian came in third place at the “Taittinger Prix Culinaire International” in Paris - a worldwide competition for chefs at the top of their profession. He was talent-spotted to join Schloss Berg and bring his high art of cooking – where premium quality meets an artful blend of tradition and modernity, to the Saar region.
Considered the crème de la crème of chefs in Germany, his cuisine evokes the senses. Christian’s relentless quest for quality is seen in his evolving and exceptional style of cooking, to create and re-invent. Rooted in French culinary art and techniques, his contemporary dishes blend tradition and modernity, with an occasional Mediterranean or Asian twist.
Using the finest seasonal and home-grown produce from the neighbouring region of Luxembourg, France and Germany, his refined gastronomy features the freshest seafood bounty and exotic spices and herbs, which concurs with The Cliff’s signature sea-inspired cuisine. “Add to that, a great deal of vigour, energy, staying power and – very importantly – the ability to assert yourself” is Christian’s secret recipe for sensory pleasures of the palate.
Creative, fun-loving and detailed, Christian began his culinary journey in 1987. Over his 11 years at Schloss Berg, he has conjured countless compositions and rose to the ranks of the top ten German chefs, with his highest honours from the famous Michelin Guide. In 1998, he gained his first star, the second followed in 1999 while the coveted third was bestowed in 2005 in Paris. “In gastronomy, earning three Michelin stars is like winning a gold medal at the Olympics. For a chef, it’s like being knighted. It is the crowning glory of one’s career, any culinary craftsman is ultimately working towards that definitive goal,” said Christian. He was also awarded 19/20 points by renowned Gault Millau in 2008.
Exclusive degustation menus will be available nightly during this three-day star-studded experience. Reservations are recommended and can be made at +65 6371 1425 or email: thecliff@thesentosa.com.
