Savour epicurean delights from 3 to 8 August 2010, as The Cliff at The Sentosa Resort & Spa presents celebrity Chef Maurizio Menconi from the award-winning La Scala Italian restaurant from The Sukhothai Bangkok, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. He will delight guests at The Cliff with unique creations of contemporary cuisine infused with the flamboyant Italian flair.

Maurizio took on the role as the Head Italian Chef at The Sukhothai Bangkok in 2008 and spearheaded The Art of Dining culinary campaign which has been a success. Since then, he has worked shoulder to shoulder with numerous Michelin-star Chefs, namely three Michelin-star Pascal Barbot – chef owner of L’Astrance in Paris; two Michelin-star Edouard Loubet – chef owner of La Bastide de Capelongue in Bonnieux, France and many other Michelin-star chefs as well as prominent head chefs from renowned restaurants, including Les Amis in Singapore.

Prior to heading La Scala, Maurizio was the Chef de Cuisine at the Ritz Carlton Dubai from 2006 to 2008. He had spent 10 years of his career running stand-alone restaurants around the globe and had also worked with Michelin-star Chef Angelo Paracucchi at “La Locanda dell’Angelo” in Italy before moving on to be based in Bangkok where he was Italian Chef de Cuisine for Dusit Hotel & Resort and Royal Orchid Sheraton.

Maurizio graduated from IPSSAR (Italy) and was also trained at the renowned University of Truffles, marking him as an expert in the field, not only in the delicacy’s preparation but in growing and finding the seasonal fungus as well.

After travelling throughout Thailand in 1999 and studying at The Oriental in Bangkok, Maurizio felt as one with the country and its culture, art, service and culinary traditions. “This is why The Sukhothai Bangkok is outstanding,” Maurizio said. “It is so Thai: the spirit, the smell, the architecture and of course, the people. This is a fantastic opportunity for me. I can work with the best raw materials, as consumer demand and competition are so high!”

Though originally from Tuscany, Maurizio is accomplished in the full diversity of Italian cuisine from all of the country’s 20 regions, using quality ingredients and hard-to-find imported beef, lamb, fish, mussels and cheeses to deliver a traditional taste with a contemporary presentation.

Exclusive degustation menus will be available nightly during this six-day gastronomic experience featuring new approaches to Tuscan preparations, with a selection of meticulously prepared dishes including baby pig from Crete Senesi, hand-made Pici Pasta, Truffles, and the unique dessert “Memory of a Zuccotto”. Meet Maurizio, when he joins the resort's culinary team for Sunday Brunch on 8 August 2010 at The Terrace where he will present his personal brunch favourites.
