Savour epicurean delights from 4 to 9 August 2009 as The Cliff presents Michelin-starred Guest Chef Stéphan Bernhard of Le Jardin de France from Baden-Baden, Germany. Modern yet with a classic French flair, he will awe guests with exquisite flavours and presentation.
Stéphan’s culinary inspirations come to him like flashes of genius, whereby he can “savour” in his head before tasting in his mouth. His exemplary culinary art stems from the quality of the ingredients. “The secret is that there is no secret!” modestly states Stéphan. “Once the quality is there, the rest is skill and intuition and pure culinary knowledge”. An ambassador for renowned brand Sarrade - the producer of premium foie gras, Stéphan will titillate tastebuds with his signature contemporary dishes featuring foie gras and more.
Hailing from France, Stéphan completed his training in “am Lindenplatzel” restaurant in Alsatian Mittelbergheim where he fortified his foundation in French cuisine. He went on to work with top-notched restaurants which included Michelin-starred “La Couronne” in Baldenheim and Restaurant “Au Valet de Coeur“ in Val de Ville and honed his ingenious culinary skills to perfection.
Stéphan saw the potential of the scenic “spa-town” – Baden-Baden, Germany, to introduce haute French cuisine and settled there with his wife, opening Le Jardin de France in May 1998. Just six months after opening, Stéphan’s culinary skills obtained 15 points from the Gault Millau and barely a year later, he garnered his first Michelin star. At that time, he was only 28 years old and became the youngest chef with his own restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star in Germany. Since 1999, his restaurant has drawn repeated commendation in the Michelin Guide, is ranked 16 out of 20 points in Gault Millau Guide 2009 and listed as one of “The best restaurant 2008/2009” by Feinschmecker.
